Xmas with the ex……
December 9, 2010 by Suzy
In the December 2010 article of Woman Magazine I am featured with my family sharing Xmas with my ex and his new wife. It’s great to see such positive articles appearing in national magazines, and although we all know that achieving harmony post break up takes quite a bit of conscious effort and faith, it’s great to be able to genuinely stand up and say – at least try! It can work!

The Surrey/Hampshire border SOS Road Show, hosted by the Collaborative Family Law Group, is the first local event to help people bounce back from relationship break ups and life crises. Farnham Castle is the venue and on the evening of November 11th, we created a safe haven in which local people could take professional advice to build the confidence and skills they need to go it alone, whether going through divorce and break up, or just looking for a new beginning.
Our next event will take place between 5.30pm and 8.30pm on Thursday 10 February 2011.
A relationship break up can be the perfect time to make positive changes whether that’s starting up the business you always dreamed of, getting your pension sorted, or losing weight and taking more care of your health. The event also focuses on how to create a less combative approach to break up, and to protect the welfare of any children.
The events will include:

Starting Over from divorce at Farnham Castle
November 16, 2010 by Suzy
Farnham Castle has never seen anything like it – the first ever SOS Surrey/Hampshire border Road Show on a Thursday night in November……
The event that could save you breaking the bank if you are breaking up
November 3, 2010 by Suzy
Breaking up is hard to do and it is easy to make costly mistakes – that’s why Starting Over Roadshow creator Suzy Miller is urging people to come to her event next Thursday (11 November).
Farnham Castle, a popular wedding venue in Surrey, will host the event which will give people access to a range of local experts giving advice on financial planning, parenting, mediation, wellbeing, dealing with debt, legal issues, prenuptials, wills and even events for singles. The roadshow takes place between 5.30 and 8.30pm.
There are still a few places left at one-to-one ‘pow-wow’ sessions with experts where people can have a cup of tea and a no-obligation chat.
“A staggering 60 per cent of people will know someone going through a divorce or break up. Often people don’t know where to turn when they are breaking up and end up breaking down in the process. Coming to the event is a perfect way to meet experts face to face without having to resort to looking in the telephone directory and spending precious time trying to find the right advisers,” explained Suzy.
The Starting Over Show (SOS) www.startingovershow.co.uk was launched two years ago by entrepreneur Suzy Miller to help people going through a divorce or breakup. Having been through a difficult separation herself, the mother-of-three used her experiences to create an event that would encourage a non-combative approach to divorce.
More than 115,000* marriages in the UK end in divorce and the SOS show offers help with almost every aspect of this difficult time.
Suzy says: “A relationship break-up can be the perfect time to make positive changes and the event provides an opportunity to gain legal and financial advice, relationship and parenting coaching and even holistic healing to help with relaxation.”
According to Ian Taylor of Godalming-based Davenport Financial Management Ltd www.davenportfinancial.co.uk, divorce rates are high on the Surrey and Hampshire border, making Farnham an ideal location for the SOS event.
“Divorce rates in this area are high, and the size of the assets being split are probably among the largest in the country. Making sure assets are fairly shared can be extremely complex, especially when it comes to pension arrangements. We are urging people who are thinking about divorce or currently going through a break up to come to the event and seek professional advice.”
Ian Taylor is a Resolution-accredited pension and divorce specialist and a member of the Collaborative Family Law Group based on the Surrey Hampshire border. Collaborative Family Law Group www.collaborativelawgroup.co.uk is hosting the Farnham show on 11 November from 5:30 to 8:30pm. Tickets are on sale now on line for £8 for two (tickets sold in pairs) at: www.startingovershow.co.uk/index.php/sos-roadshows/surreyhamps-border-sos-road-show/

The first local Starting Over Road Show – in a castle!
August 24, 2010 by Suzy
The Surrey/Hampshire border SOS Road Show is the first local event to help people bounce back from relationship break ups and life crises. On the day, we will create a safe haven in which visitors can take professional advice to build the confidence and skills they need to go it alone, whether they are going through divorce and break up, or just looking for a new beginning.
A relationship break up can be the perfect time to make positive changes whether that’s starting up the business you always dreamed of, getting your pension sorted, or losing weight and taking more care of your health. But this show is not just about the wellbeing aspects of moving forwards from divorce – the SOS Road Show also focuses on how to create a less combative approach to break up, and to protect the welfare of any children.
The Surrey/Hampshire border Starting Over Road Show is taking place at Farnham Castle, Farnham, Surrey GU9 0AG, between 5.30 and 8.30pm on Thursday 11 November 2010.
The Road Show events are based upon the successful regional events of Brighton and London during 2009-2010. The London event was featured on GMTV and mixed family lawyers and yoga, financial experts and guided meditation, life coaching and dating advice – a holistic approach which visitors truly appreciated.
The events will include:
* free legal & financial private powwows
* free parenting, personal development and wellbeing advice
* information & inspiration to start over
A recent survey by Starting Over show reveals that over 60% of people in the UK will know someone going through divorce or break up. The show’s organiser Suzy Miller encourages people to ‘tell a friend’ – or even better, to bring them along to the event, and this is why tickets are all sold in pairs.

what visitors to the 2010 SOS events said about the shows…..
Listen to one of our visitors sharing her reactions……
Guildford SOS events:
“very very interesting. So nice to talk to people and to get answers to my questions and to know where I stand. I’m feeling in a much better mood and not crying all the time now.” (NS)
“I would encourage churches wanting to widen and deepen their support for people facing relational breakdowns to take a good look at the SOS website www.startingovershow.co.uk and to put the next date in the diary…”
The Reverend John Gooding in his diocesan newspaper
Farnham SOS events:
“I did feel supported there – the energy was amazing and it was worth the long journey.”
Jan, a visitor from Herts
“I came along to your SOS roadshow back in Feb. at Farnham, as things between myself and husband were at an all time low and I was convinced that separation was the only way forward for all involved (have 2 boys aged 14 and 16) So I booked my pow wows with legal and financial advisors and mediators, went along to see them to get the ball rolling and get some good advice and guidance. They were all extremely helpful but most importantly they were friendly and non-judgemental of my circumstances and that made me feel relaxed, as its not something you do everyday and I remember feeling very nervous about it. To my surprise by the end of the evening I was actually questioning myself as too wether or not this was the right way forward, as I waited, contemplating quietly my feelings that had arisen from expressing my feelings out loud, I noticed Jane the psychic, and very drawn to her I asked if I could talk with her about my evening. She was amazing, and picked up quickly my new doubts about seperation from my husband. In fact she went on to give me good advice about my career and problems I was experiencing with my son also. I began to understand how all these things were having a very negative effect on my life and from then to now, I have become more positive about my life, and my relationship with my husband is improving all the time. So a huge THANK YOU to you all for doing such a marvellous show that really put things into perspective for me, even if it wasn’t in the way I thought it would be. I am truly GRATEFUL to you all.”
Alison May 2011
Earlier SOS events:

Bryony

“I like the show because everyone had a positive attitude, the stands were varied and covered different aspects of info on starting over. There was a good mixture of legal and professional advice and people were very generous with their time. The location was central and convenient…..
Overall uplifting” Slaveia
“I attended the starting over show because I am starting a new business venture and I also wanted to seek advice regarding civil partnerships. I was delighted to find that I met people to help me with both. Overall I felt that the show was extremely informative very relaxed, inventive and reasonably priced for entry. … I would be happy to recommend this to anyone starting
over in any way.” Rozanna Roberts
“I felt that this show was totally unique! It embraced an area of life that often goes unnurtured and unembraced! It was a joy to be a part of this experience.” Emma
“Thank you for the tremendous contribution this show made to my life in 2009. Although a little sceptical, after meeting only two exhibitors I found myself more financially sound and buzzing to wear new and brighter colours!
And it was fun” Shayne

Collaborative Family Law Group host Guildford SOS divorce road show
July 7, 2010 by Suzy
Host’s: spokesman and Chartered Financial Planner Ian Taylor is a member of the Collaborative Family Law Group based on the Surrey Hampshire border, which plans to work with the Starting Over Show to create a unique local resource for people living or working in Surrey & Hampshire – legal & financial surgeries, relationship & parenting guidance, holistic healing and even start up business opportunities.
Find out about our next events by clicking here…..
SOS Surrey Hampshire Border is an empowering resource for people going through divorce and family break up, offering free legal, financial and relationship advice, parenting coaches, holistic healers – all in one convenient place to drop in and experience on a Thursday evening.
The first host of the SOS Surrey/Hampshire border Road Show venture is the Collaborative Family Law Group, a group of forward thinking family lawyers and financial planners committed to helping separating couples resolve their difficulties in a dignified manner. Their aim is to offer an alternative to the traditional contested method through the courts.
The group includes 9 family lawyers, all of whom are collaboratively trained and 2 financial planners who are accredited by Resolution as divorce specialists. The lawyers are all members of Resolution and trained in alternative methods of dispute resolution, whilst the financial planners do extensive work with divorcing couples, looking at the financial impact of divorce and pension splitting. Where appropriate they can also provide lifetime cashflow modelling for either party either before or after the settlement process.
Ian Taylor, a spokesman for the group, said it was exciting to be the first group in the UK to directly host a local SOS Roadshow event: “I think the SOS Roadshow is an excellent idea, both to promote our services and those of other high quality professionals in the area. More importantly, it raises awareness of the positive benefits of dealing with relationship breakdown in an adult, non confrontational, way. The benefits of this approach for separating couples, and particularly for their children, are huge.”
